There's something to be said about how we never find Mary-Ann, only other people's dreams of her. Fragments.

Both Rene and Ann muse that maybe Mary-Ann never existed, and in a sense it's true. There obviously was a girl once, but that girl is not what any of them are searching for, not really.

i can't really see any possibility for sandrone other than her being a recreation of mary-ann. she's active in fontaine, has an interest in mechanics and machine development, and experimented on ruin machines from khaenri'ah--just as we know alain did. she has a vested interested in preserving meka that express sentient thought, or something close enough to it. her appearance matches young mary-ann's incredibly closely, from the shade of her hair and eyes and dress to even the way her hair is styled.

if we take each different version of mary-ann to represent a single part of a greater whole, she fits in perfectly. ann is the preserved form of their childhood, young and still learning, at the heart of her own story. 'mary-ann' is the part of herself that agreed with jakob and rene and lyris, that feared the future and dying and longed to hold onto her childhood home and her childhood friends. so sandrone could be the part of mary-ann that was active in the institute and that joined the marechaussee hunters, that researched mechanics alongside her brother, who tried, in her own way, to safeguard the future.

For someone who stood out as frequently as he did, Epsilon did not like being stared at. Normally, if you were off-putting enough, people would get intimidated or self-conscious enough to look away. 

Sandrone, Seventh of the Fatui Harbingers, appeared to have no such compunctions. Whether he was trying to make sense of the doll herself or the hulking machine that carried her about, Epsilon found the duo that comprised “Sandrone” disquieting. Her gaze, especially, since he could see perfectly well when her unblinking eyes were lingering on him from across the room. 

“Do you mind?” Epsilon asked at last, setting his coffee cup on the table in a decisive motion. This was what he got for trying to read a book in the common area for once. Sandrone, lurking in the background, watching. 

“If you aren’t going to say anything, get out of here. I’m not about to do anything entertaining for you.”

A question for all the Genshin lore nerds:

What is the significance of Alain Guillotin's last name?

Apparently people say that he was named after Joseph Ignace Guillotin, who wanted humane ways to administer the death penalty. But like... That has nothing to do with in-game him??

It's like... Geppetto was right there. If you don't know, Geppetto was the fictional creator of Pinocchio, which would have made a nice parallel with Sandrone, especially if you go the modern renditions of how Geppetto made Pinocchio out of grief for his dead son, just like how Alain did the same thing for Mary-Ann.

So I'm wondering if there was a reason for Alain's surname that outweighed the literary reference

Ok, this made me curious too!

I think this pretty much solidifies Alain as Sandrone. He already had his obsession with research and recreating his dear sister fits as well. Mary-Ann could want revenge but Alain is more likely (his passions are closer to love).

Pulcinella is a mystery though. Political power? Status? Political power and status on a scale that's far beyond a normal politician? Oh no. Oh no. We have a potential coup on our hands. That's genuinely terrifying (and also would the Tsaritsa even agree to give power to someone like that?).

As in, Pantalone is obsessed with wealth as a source of power and as a mechanism to the point of creating a new economical system. Imagine something like that in politics.

Also imagine a person who looks at 14yo Childe and thinks "he could be useful" instead of "get this away from me". That's a very particular type of person.

(but then in Commedia dell'arte Pulcinella is more of an opportunist and his solutions to problems seem to favor the weakest at the expense of the powerful.

maybe he likes disrupting rules. upsetting the status quo can be an obsession too.

let him be a proper trickster. if they managed Yae Miko they can manage a "rebellious delinquent in the body of an old man", as his commedia counterpart is usually described)

think my new favorite theory is that the fatui harbingers all have some corrupted idea of love, which shows how the tsartisa's ideal has been damaged

childe loves combat and constantly seeks to grow stonger, no matter what

signora was in such grief from losing rostam that she tried to burn the world away

dottore only loves gaining knowledge, to the point that he'll do anything to aquire it, no matter who it hurts

scaramouche was essentially obsesed with obtaining a heart (gnosis)

arlecchino clearly loves those close to her, but is ruthless towards anyone she deems a "traitor"

pantalone is obsessed with wealth, and thinks it's like "the beating heart of the world" and wants to control it

Tho I am delusional enough to hope that since he specifically talked about wanting to meet traveler in a new body that will not be harmful to teyvat, they will eventually yassify and release that dragon adfghjsdfg. hsr's quantum and imaginary is what gives me hope for abyss elemnent or smth, and then Elynas will be pretty good candidate.

I love Jeht so much, she wins even over Enjou, who is a babygirl. I like pretty much everyone from Narzissenkreuz Ordo questlines, tho least of all Alain Guillotin, who it seems like is gonna be sandrone:\ honorary mention to catfish yuri from the chenyu vale.

Random Fatui Headcannons

Note that obviously the ones we have not seen in game, as of the 23rd of September, 2024 (and Capitano), may not end up being accurate to their characters, I am not a psychic.

Also these are very unserious lol.

Capitano - I am incapable of reading this man (a sneaking part of me does think I'm going to find him really annoying but everyone else will think I'm weird for that)

Dottore - Got bullied when he was a kid (as he should). Thinks he's better than Columbina in every aspect just because he's a spot above her.

Columbina - Doesn't buy Dottore's crap and rarely takes orders from anyone even if her entire job is based around taking orders from the Tsrista (based on arle's voiceline about I think she might have no motive, morals or maybe even sense of logic so it makes sense she'd contradict like that), I also like to believe that she may just be with the Tsrista because that means she can kill people without consequences. Modern!Columbina is definitely an avid watcher of the bachelor franchise, she watches every episode of every show as it's airing and goes online to talk about all the drama.

Arlechino - Genuinely does not care for the concept of gender. Lynette is her favourite child (this take is not at all biased) from a purley affection related position, however she views Lyney as the most useful and hence tends to favour him more (fear not Fremmie is not forgotten he is very close to the twins as always).

Pulcinella - I honestly believe this man is going to have a tragic backstory. Very touchy when people call him short (even though he undoubtedly is).

Sandrone (I believe the the robot is the real harbinger and also alain theory but since it isn't entirely confirmed I will just be using gender neutral pronouns, since this possibility means their gender is up in the air) - Doesn't just hate Childe's guts with no reason, one his habits ended up repeatedly ruining their research, Childe doesn't realise this and thinks it's reasonless.

Pantalone - Has a surprisingly high kill count. His glasses are fake. Modern!Pantalone is an Elon Musk simp, he has Twitter Blue and calls it "X" and is in his twitter replies hyping is failures up (I think Modern!Dottore would like agree with him but he wouldn't be a simp). He looks significantly older than he is (or I guess in a modern au cause he's probably immortal, I image Modern!Pantalone being in his early 30s but looking about 10 years older.)

Tartaglia/Childe - Modern!Childe watches Mr. Beast and thinks he's never done anything wrong.

Exceptionally kind, engrossed in his research, barely noticing anything outside of it. And a genuis, of course.

I love your point about other narcissenkreuzers getting a chance to continue! It really would be fitting.

And yeah, even if he already passes away, he still played an important part we don't fully know yet.

For a very weird reason I still want Sandrone to actually *be* Mary-Ann or maybe hold her memories. It feels strange that we know what everyone else thinks of Mary-Ann but not her own perspective.

I know she's already accounted for, she's a part of that dreaming oceanid, but also everyone is an unreliable narrator and Carter implies an oceanid can recreate someone they know truly well.

And it would be fitting if someone's memory of her is enough for those who have been searching, while the real Mary-Ann gets to be free.

i know i sound crazy but im all for that theory about the marionette being a doll like katheryne and is a spitting image of the deceased mary-ann from the narzissenkreuz quest and how sandrone is out researching curve's ability to feel human emotions. sandrone is a dude in the commedia dell'arte-- the theory of alain guillotin being the big guy carrying the marionette is just sooooo gooood!!

I’m sorry but these two have to be the same person. I refuse to believe their visual similarities are just a coincidence. I know people have said the same about Baizhu and Pantalone but their similarities were only face shape, hairstyle and glasses. Sandrone is literally just Mary-Ann but taller and with extra strands of hair.

“But Mary-Ann’s consciousness was absorbed by Lyris!” Yes, but Alain, Mary-Ann’s brother, is capable of creating intelligent machines such as Seymour, so who’s to say Sandrone wasn’t originally a robot clone of Mary-Ann? It would explain her fascination with automatons. Hell, her code name Marionette literally means “little Mary” in French. And which nation is based on France? Fontaine, where Mary-Ann lived!

If they aren’t the same person, I’m gonna be so pissed.
